Privacy policy
This policy describes how Iowa Local Guide handles information when you browse the directory, create an account, claim a listing, contact a business, or communicate with us.
Information we collect
- Account information, such as your email address, authentication details, role, and security settings.
- Claim information, including the business involved, your role, communications, and evidence you choose to provide.
- Business profile information submitted by owners or obtained from public and permitted sources.
- Inquiry information, such as your name, email, optional phone number, message, and the business contacted.
- Transaction and subscription records. Payment processors handle payment-card details under their own policies.
- Technical information, including device, browser, approximate network, security, request, cookie, and error data.
- Messages, correction reports, accessibility feedback, and other information you send us.
How we use information
We use information to operate and secure the service, authenticate accounts, review claims, maintain listings, deliver inquiries, provide requested support, process subscriptions, investigate misuse, comply with law, and understand and improve site performance.
When information is disclosed
Information may be provided to the business you choose to contact, vendors that help us host, authenticate, map, communicate, process payments, prevent abuse, or monitor errors, and advisers or authorities when reasonably necessary for legal, safety, or security purposes. We may also disclose information as part of a business reorganization or transfer, subject to appropriate protections.
A business inquiry necessarily shares the contact details and message you submit with the relevant business so it can respond.
Public information
Business profile content is intended to be public. Do not submit personal information for a public profile unless it is appropriate to publish as business contact information. Account credentials, claim evidence, and private support communications are not intended for public display.
Retention and security
Directory inquiry records are assigned a deletion date up to 90 days after submission unless they must be retained for an active customer relationship, dispute, security investigation, or legal obligation.
Claim evidence emailed to us is received through the claim-support mailbox and is intended to be accessed only by personnel responsible for evaluating claims. We aim to remove attachments within 30 days after a final claim decision, except when evidence is reasonably needed for an active dispute, security investigation, or legal obligation. The claim decision and a limited audit record may be retained longer.
Other information is retained for as long as reasonably needed for account administration, fraud prevention, dispute handling, legal obligations, and backup cycles. We use administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You may ask to access, correct, or delete eligible personal information, or raise a privacy concern, by emailing privacy@iowalocalguide.com. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where permitted or required. You can also control cookies through your browser, though some features may depend on them.
Children and changes
The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly request accounts from them. We may update this policy as the service changes and will post the effective date with the current version.
